BNP Paribas Investment Partners CIO Christian Dargnat elected as new President of EFAMA
Amsterdam, 24th June 2013 EFAMA, the European Fund and Asset Management Association, has elected Christian Dargnat as President for a two-year term. The election took place during EFAMAs Annual General Meeting in Amsterdam last Friday, 21st June.
The representatives of the European investment management industry also appointed Alexander Schindler, Member of the Executive Board of Union Asset Management Holding AG, as its Vice-President.
Christian Dargnat who served as Vice-President of EFAMA from June 2011 will succeed Claude Kremer who has been President since 2011. Christian is Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM), the largest investment centre of BNP Paribas Investment Partners (BNPP IP), of which he is CIO. He joined the business in 2006 and became a member of the Executive Board and was also named Director General of BNPP AM in April 2009. In September 2010, Christian was appointed Chairman of the MEDEF committee "Currencies and International monetary system". He has also lectured at Hautes Etudes Commerciales (the leading European university) since 2008.
The new Vice President, Alexander Schindler, was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of EFAMA in May 2012 and as a member of the management committee of the Board of Directors of EFAMA in June 2012. He became a member of the Executive Board of Union Asset Management Holding AG in January 2004. Alexander has also been a member of the Board of Directors of BEA Union Investment Management Limited, Hong Kong since 2007 and a member of the Executive Board BVI Bundesverband Investment und Asset Management e.V. (German association of investment and asset management) since 2011. He is a qualified banker and lawyer.
In his inaugural AGM President address, Christian Dargnat said: I am honoured to be elected as President of such a widely respected and influential industry body as EFAMA. Having spent two years as Vice-President, I have witnessed my predecessor, Claude Kremer, work tirelessly alongside the EFAMA team to support the industry and the end investor and I am grateful for the solid foundation upon which I take on this role.
EFAMA is the voice of the European fund management industry and with a strong team already in place, our new Vice-President Alexander Schindler and the indispensable support of our members, we are resolute in our efforts to protect investors and we will work alongside legislative bodies to support regulatory measures that benefit the industry, economy and end-investor.
Members at the AGM also elected a new Board of Directors for a two-year term*. In addition to the elections, the AGM marked the formal acceptance of three new Corporate Members and two new Associate Members. EFAMA also has 27 national member associations.
As the representative association for the European investment management industry, EFAMA and its newly appointed heads are committed to an agenda that protects the investor. Their mission for the next two years is:
To support investor confidence and in the asset management industry through the promotion of governance standards, integrity, professionalism and performance throughout the industry;
To enhance the smooth functioning of a European single market for investment management and a level playing field for saving and investment products;
To strengthen the competitiveness of the industry in terms of cost and quality;
To promote the asset management industry and the UCITS brand on a European and worldwide level.

Biography of Mr Christian Dargnat:
Christian has been Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Asset Management and Chief Investment Officer of BNP Paribas Investment Partners since 2009. He joined BNP Paribas Asset Management in 2006 as CIO and as a member of the Executive Committee.
Prior to this Christian held several senior leadership positions including Head of Balanced Management and Strategy and Head of Equity and Balanced Management / Head of Convertible Bond and Arbitrage Products in the asset management division of Crdit Agricole.
He is the Chairman of the Board of Overlay Asset Management and Chairman of BNP Paribas Investment Partners Italy. In September 2010, Christian was appointed Chairman of the MEDEF committee "Currencies and International monetary system" and he has lectured at Hautes Etudes Commerciales (the leading European university) since 2008.
Christian graduated with Masters degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Paris Dauphine, Paris, France in 1988.
